Since becoming Tring Running Club's newsletter editor at the beginning of the year, each month I receive an e-mail from Sam Williamson about a monthly time trail taking place in Watford, with the previous month's results. I knew nothing about this event, and thought it was about time I went down to the Woods to see for myself what was going on . .

It turns out to be a 2 lap 6k time trial in the Woods, a very nice setting for a Saturday afternoon workout. Usually held on the 4th Saturday of the month, people arrive between 12.45 and 1 pm, ready to start at 1.15.

And if 6k seems a bit too far because you're a new runner, or you had a heavy Friday night, or you're racing the following morning, then you only need to do one lap and stretch your legs for 3k . .

Sam started the time trials in January of this year - which would be why I'd not heard of them before - and new Angels are always welcome, so if you'd like to go along and join in and see how you're training's going, please click here and e-mail Sam to find out more . .

entry is free, just turn up ready to run and make sure you've a pocket for your car key. I can tell you that the start of each lap is downhill, and the finish is flat, so there must be an uphill section somewhere . .

registration involves telling Sam or Sarah that you're running . . see below . .

and the debrief looks something like this, with Sam (in the yellow and red) giving the runners their lap splits and announcing any pb's or lap records . . before everyone goes back home again . .

all the photos here are low resolution . . if you'd like your own high res copy, e-mail me and I'll send you the high res file, and don't worry, these photos are free and for fun, not for sale I did threaten to turn up and run one day, but I'm reconsidering after everyone else threatened to bring their cameras!! The world does not need umpteen photos of me running through the Woods!!!!
